New fares for Gautrain

2011-06-01 09:43

A new Gautrain fare structure has been announced today that entails some increases and savings.

Airport service fares will increase from R100 to R105 per trip for commuters departing from Sandton, Marlboro and Rhodesfield, the company said.

The new structure will also make it possible for regular users to purchase the seven-day and 35-day passes that carry savings of 10% and 20%, respectively, compared with single pay-as-you-go fare costs.

In the case of the Sandton and Rhodesfield route, the new 35-day pass will cost R19.61 per trip compared with the previous R21 per trip.

The company said it has also considerably simplified parking tariffs, and this would result in significant savings for passengers who parked and caught the train to the airport and back.

The parking tariff will be applicable from all stations and will cost R10 for the first 24 hours – as long as the user also catches the train.

Another change is making the airport service available from Marlboro.

From Wednesday, airport passengers may embark or disembark at Marlboro as well as Sandton stations.

This means that passengers may catch a train directly to the airport from Marlboro station, instead of via Sandton, the company said.

Passengers may also return directly to Marlboro from the airport.

A gold card service will also see passengers being able to order registered cards from any station ticket office.

The Gautrain company said this new offering would enable passengers to link their personal identities to a specific Gautrain Gold Card.

In the event that this card gets lost or stolen, it will be possible for the company to blacklist it and transfer any unused value to a new one.
