New house for mother of 17

2011-09-08 11:08

A six-bedroom house will be built for a mother of 17 children at Schoonoord in Sekhukhune, Limpopo.

A company working with the department of traditional affairs was building the house for the jobless woman who had given birth to 23 children – of which 17 survived, according to the newspaper Sowetan.

Limpopo Traditional Affairs MEC Soviet Lekganyane said construction had already begun on the house in Kotsiri village.

“But we are not demolishing the already existing RDP house (that the family was living in) ... because the new one is not being built (at) government expense,” the MEC was quoted as saying.

The woman’s children who are 18 years and above would be put up in their own reconstruction and development programme (RDP) houses.

The woman and her unemployed husband said they were grateful to the newspaper for an earlier story which drew attention to their situation.
