New power stations for SA

2010-10-08 07:19

South Africa will reportedly get six new power stations worth R1.3 trillion in an effort to eradicate power cuts.

China, France and South Korea would help in the construction of the proposed new stations, the energy department’s director-general Nelisiwe Magubane has said.

The power stations, which formed part of the government’s new proposed energy plan, would use “different technology”.

“(We) need them to re-look the whole research project. But in the meantime we are still going to need additional power plants and we are going to use what we call conventional nuclear power as we use it in Koeberg, in Cape Town,” she told the SABC.
