Newly appointed Limpopo premier Stan Mathabatha has fired eight of the ten MECs in Cassel Mathale’s cabinet during a reshuffle today.

Mathabatha fired MEC for Economic Development Pinky Kekana, Treasury MEC David Masondo, Health MEC Norman Mabaso, Public Works MEC Thabitha Mohlala, Human Settlement MEC Clifford Motsepe, Agriculture MEC Jacob Marule, Road and Transport MEC Pitsi Moloto and Safety and Security MEC Florence Radzilani.

Only two MECs, Dickson Masemola and Dipuo Letsatsi-Duba, escaped the axe.

Letsatsi-Duba was moved from sports, arts and culture to the department of health.

Masemola was moved from education to public works. His position was taken by Dikeledi Magadzi – a veteran politician who has served as an MEC for years.

Masemola and Letsatsi-Duba broke ranks with the disbanded PEC last year and campaigned for President Jacob Zuma to retain his position during the party’s elective conference in Mangaung.

Kekana was replaced with Mopani regional task team convener Charlie Sekoati, Masondo was replaced with speaker of the legislature Rudolph Phala, Motsepe was replaced with Sekhukhune regional task team convener Ishmael Kgejepe, Marule was replaced with Rosina Semenya, Moloto was replaced with former ANCYL member Lehlogonolo Masoga, Radzilani was replaced with Joyce Mashamba and Miriam Ramadwa replaced Letsatsi-Duba.

Mathabatha confirmed his new team to City Press.
