Missing was the flurry of signings that usually characterises the

off-season but football followers should get used to seeing ex-SuperSport United

winger Daine Klate in an Orlando Pirates shirt, Sthembiso Ngcobo (ex-Free State

Stars) in a Kaizer Chiefs jersey, Richard Henyekane (ex-Golden Arrows) and

Thapelo Tshilo (ex-Jomo Cosmos) in Mamelodi Sundowns colours.

There are also a few overseas returnees in the PSL such as Bradley

Carnell (from Germany), Kermit Erasmus (Holland) at SuperSport and Bryce Moon

(Greece) is set to rejoin Ajax Cape Town on loan. Also back home is Sibusiso

Zuma who arrived from Denmark this week and immediately trained with newly

promoted Cape club Vasco da Gama.

venue on August 28.

Soccer City will also host its first domestic soccer event in four

years when the Telkom Charity Cup spectacular returns to the “home of SA soccer”

on August 7.

Township-based fans are already enjoying walks within close stadium

proximity at Harry Gwala in Pietermaritzburg, Dobsonville and Orlando stadiums

in Soweto.

A local coach winning the championship

The last five PSL titles were won by locals – Neil Tovey (2006),

The fans’ “one-stop” shop

Welcome back to the Mamas and other stadium vendors.

The long wait for pap en vleis and cellular (a nip of brandy) is

finally over as R25 will get a hungry fan a sumptuous plate of

dumpling/rice/pap served with chicken/beef and a choice of side salad – enough

to keep you full for the entire day.

Local soccer fanatics were severely hit in

the pocket by inflated food and beverage prices during the World Cup.

A half-a-litre cooldrink cost R15, a chicken burger went for R40

while a full meal was charged at up to R50.

Extensive hours of footie on TV

For those who still suffer a hangover from the World Cup, there

will be close on 290 hours of live broadcasts of domestic matches on

SuperSport’s Super Diski.

Laduma on SABC is also a channel of choice for any

soccer addict.
