Nkoana-Mashabane hosts Brazilian counterpart

2011-07-23 10:35

International Relations Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane will host her Brazilian counterpart Antonio Patriota in Pretoria today, the department said.

The visit would strengthen South America and Africa’s co-operation, spokesperson Clayson Monyela said.

“It seeks to promote collaboration and co-operation ... with specific reference to such international organisations as the United Nations, the G20, the Ibsa (India, Brazil and South Africa) Dialogue Forum and the Brics mechanism.

“It is expected that discussions among the two ministers will entail, but not be limited to economic and political governance,” Monyela said.

Nkoana-Mashabane and Brazilian external relations minister Patriota were expected to discuss the draft Memorandum of Understanding of 2011 on Co-operation.

This was to show support for Brazil as it prepared to host the Fifa World Cup in 2014 and the Olympic Games in 2016, he said.

The two would also discuss their shared view that the United Nations Security Council needs to be reformed.
