No bomb found at Medupi station

2011-06-11 14:32

No bomb was found at the Medupi power station in Lephalale today after an unknown man called to warn of explosives at the site, Limpopo police said.

“The bomb unit combed the entire area but didn’t find any explosives,” Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said.

The station was shut down and 6 000 workers were evacuated this morning after management received a call saying that there was a bomb at the site.

“Everything seems to be ok, and the plant will be reopened tonight so that the evening shift can continue.”

Medupi is a new dry-cooled coal-fired power station being built by Eskom, scheduled to be fully operational by 2015.
