No drunks and potheads please, we’re Cosatu

2012-09-17 07:36

From what you smoke to what you sing to what you signal, it’s all in the Cosatu house rules.

These are published on the first page of each of the documents for its congress, taking place from today to Thursday at Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand.

Carien du Plessis selects the top 10 rules:

1. Delegates shall be punctual and disciplined, and their unions must ensure this.

2. Congress will start exactly at 9am every day and end at 7pm, except on the last day, when it will end at 4pm. Nobody will leave before that.

3. Cellphones should be switched off during congress proceedings.

4. No disruption of congress proceedings will be tolerated.

5. No firearms or traditional weapons allowed.

6. No alcohol or drugs allowed into congress hall, and no smoking of illegal substances during congress.

7. Divisive or tribal or war songs unrelated to the class battle will not be allowed.

8. Singing in praise of any serving leader of the alliance is not divisive, but singing against leaders is, and will not be allowed.

9. No showing of signs that seeks to prematurely open the debate on leadership of the ANC will be allowed.

10. No displaying of any posters, wearing of T-shirts, or circulation of material in support of any candidate in the Cosatu election will be allowed.
