No pressure, says new Club 808 host Cyprian Ndlovu

2015-03-06 16:53’s Club 808 starts anew tonight with the unveiling of a new presenting team made up of Boity Thulo and presenter Cyprian Ndlovu.

The music show has seen a host of its female presenters come and go.

First it was Dineo Ranaka, then came in Thando Thabethe, who was later replaced by Nonhle Thema who, because of her age, is now being replaced by Boity.

Mo Flava has been the only presenter who until now has not been tampered with. But as the show fashions itself to a new fresh and dynamic youthful approach, the biggest shake-up has seen former Vuzu presenter Ndlovu replace Mo Flava.

For those who do not know you, who is Cyprian?

Well I am a true Durbanite. I was born in Durban and only recently moved to Johannesburg to pursue my dreams in Johannesburg. Which so far are working out!

How has been working with Boity and being part of club 808 been?

Last week at the Metros we worked toether for the first time. Even though I know Boity, she has been a great person to work with and she has made it easy for me to work with.

The show has seen many of its presenters come and go, particularly the females, how long are you planning to stay?

I would like to stay as long as I can. I see the show as a way to get into my other love – radio. So as [long as] I build my brand.

What sort of vibe do you bring to the show?

As a peoples’ person, I hope my personality helps the show grow. And I hope to make the show a show to watch every Friday. It is a show for the youth by the youth and I would like to change the industry while also ensuring that people enjoy the show.

Mo Flava has been the anchor of the show since inception. How did you prepare yourself for the role?

While Mo Flava has been one of the longest serving members of the show, it goes without saying that a level of pressure as a replacement exists, but I am not too worried about the pressure. The pressure is not that great as I am not completely new to this position. I have faced a similar position before as a presenter, and see it as it is …

How did you prepare differently for this show?

There wasn’t anything I did differently as I have been in this position before. I did what I always do, and that is to keep a positive mind, and hang out with positive and like-minded people all the time.

What do you look forward to the most as part of Club 808?

The music is the biggest part of the show … so I am looking forward to profiling and interviewing artists.

What are your immediate plans outside of club 808?

As I said, I would like to get into radio, build my brand more and also challenge myself by doing things that are outside of my comfort zone. I have done a bit of acting and appeared on shows such as Rhythm City. This is one of the things about stretching oneself beyond the obvious.

Are you fan of music and what are you listening to at the moment?

Yes! I am a big fan of music in general. I listen to anything under the sun, from hip-hop to kwaito to Afro-beat and Nigerian music. I love Fabulous and am listening to rapper Big Sean at the moment.

What does Cyprian get up to when he is not working?

Gym, gym and more gym….I can’t live without gym and is a big part of my life.

*Catch Club808 on every Friday at 6pm.
