No sign of missing toddler

A week-long search for a toddler from Jan Kempdorp in Northern Cape has not yielded any results or strong leads as to his whereabouts.

Police in the province started searching for Tshepang Junior Gaduka (4) last week Monday, after he went missing the previous day.

Lieutenant-Colonel Mashay Gamieldien, the spokesperson for the police in the province, said police had received information that Tshepang was last seen at a house in town.

She said they searched the house on Monday night, but could not find anything.

A massive search with about 60 police officers and search-and-recue dogs was extended to the outskirts of town.

Gamieldien said the search continued and police were following up information received from the community.

City Press has learnt that the police are investigating the possibility that Tshepang’s father, Tshepang Sr, might know of his son’s whereabouts. He works in Limpopo.

But Joyce Moleleki, Tshepang’s grandmother on his father’s side, said her son only arrived in Jan Kempdorp yesterday.

“The police thought my son (Tshepang Sr) might know where my grandson is, but he was just as shocked as we were and confirmed that he did not know where Tshepang is.”Moleleki said her hope that Tshepang had just lost his way, was fading.

“This is a small community and if anyone had found him, they would have brought him back. I think someone took him.”

She says her grandson was wearing a red tracksuit and white sneakers when he went missing.

Anyone with information is requested to contact the station commander of Jan Kempdorp police, Lieutenant-Colonel Zinikele Mgwevu, on 082 495 4686.
