Noah takes giant leap for African comedy

“One small step for me, one giant leap for African Comedy!”, South African comedian Trevor Noah tweeted shortly after becoming the first African comedian to appear on the US talkshow, the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

Sharing the spotlight with renowned actress Glenn Close, Noah got a standing ovation for his act on the show, which aired live in the US on Friday.

Noah tweeted: “Just did the Tonight Show set and it was amazing. I got a standing ovation! Words cannot describe how happy I am.”

The Tonight Show is one of the most watched US talkshows and Noah had a television audience of millions.

He also thanked Leno on Twitter: “He made me feel at home on The Tonight Show!”.Twitter was abuzz with congratulations for Noah yesterday.

Nomblez053 tweeted: “Well done @Trevornoah making SA proud”.

Some tweeters were more descriptive, demonstrating their pride in their tweets.

This episode of the Tonight Show with Jay Leno will be broadcast on CNBC Africa on Tuesday, January 10, at 9pm (CAT).
