Bafana Bafana still have hope of reaching the quarterfinals of the Africa Cup of Nations after their hard-fought 1-1 draw with Senegal.

Bafana, who are bottom of the group with a single point, will need to beat Ghana on Tuesday and hope for a result between Senegal and Algeria, who face each other at the same time also.

Senegal top the group on four points while both Ghana and Algeria are on three each.

All four teams in the group still have a chance of advancing to the knockout stages and have everything to play for on Tuesday.

After Ghana’s win over Algeria earlier in the day, Bafana needed to match the result or salvage a draw to stay in the tournament.

Bafana started brightly in the first half as they took the game to the West Africans but fluffed their chances in front of goal.

Sibusiso Vilakazi brought out the best in Senegal goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul in one of the chances Bafana created in the first half.

Senegal were always dangerous on aerial balls but goalkeeper Jackson Mabokgwane did well to thwart their efforts.

Bafana took the lead early in the second half through Oupa Manyisa who found himself faced with the keeper in the 47th minute and finished with ease.

But just like they did against Algeria on Monday, they failed to hold on to their lead for long as Senegal drew level through Serigne Mbodj’s header.

The game could have gone either way as both sides created chances late on but neither could convert.

A draw was a fair result in the end.
