SA half-marathon sensation Sibusiso Nzima is one of the high-profile road runners who will line up in the Best Med Tuks Race at the University of Pretoria in Pretoria on Saturday.

Medical scheme firm BestMed announced today at the launch of this year’s race that they had committed to a three-year sponsorship with Tuks Athletics.

The TuksRace offers R60 000 in prize money with the first man and woman home guaranteed R5 000 each.

The runners-up in the two categories will pocket R3 000 while third-placed athletes will get R1 500 each.

Nzima, who runs in the colours of Nedbank Soweto Club, is tipped to prevail at the 21km event that has also attracted Soweto Marathon title holder Rene Kalmer in the women’s category.

“I want to focus more on road running this year,” said the 24-year-old Nzima, who participated mainly in the 5 000m track events last year.

“The race on Saturday will also help me in the build- up to the big ones later this year – the Manchester Great Run in May and another race in the Netherlands.”

Entries for the Tuks Race are open and athletes can register online at or

The race will start at 6am.
