Nzimande, Metcalfe to part ways

2010-10-18 12:36

Higher education and training department director-general Mary Metcalfe is to leave the department.

City Press reported yesterday that her relationship with Higher Education and Training Minister Blade Nzimande had soured and she was set to quit.

In a joint statement today, Nzimande and Metcalfe said they had agreed that she would leave the department before the end of April next year.

“The DG was asked to establish the department and a solid foundation in this regard has been laid. The minister wishes to thank the DG for the sterling work done,” Nzimande said.

Nzimande was confident the department’s work would proceed with “vigour and urgency” as it tried to establish an effective and responsive post-school education and training system of quality.

“The minister and the DG wish to dismiss the media speculation of October 17 of allegations of impropriety on either party,” they said.
