Are you sitting down to scribble season’s greetings in the same plain Christmas cards you sent to friends and family last year?

Why not take some inspiration from the cards that world leaders like Barack Obama and celebrities like the Kardashian clan are sending out to mark the 2013 festive season? Here’s the pick of the best cards, collated by Grazia magazine in the UK and The Huffington Post:

The Obamas

America’s first family has sent a pop-up card of the White House, complete with two dogs walking across the lawn, to friends, family and world leaders. The card is signed by the entire Obama clan, with paw prints from their dogs, Sunny and Bo.

Ellen Degeneres and Portia de Rossi

Trust one of America’s hottest couples to reference a pop-culture moment on their Christmas card. DeGeneres unveiled the card that features their faces Photoshopped on to Kanye West and Kim Kardashian in a scene from West’s Bound music video.

The Kardashians

America’s other first family spent an eye-watering $250?000 (R2.6 million) on their Christmas card, The Guardian reported this week.

Shot by celebrity snapper David LaChapelle, it features Clan Kardashian in a strange, faintly post-apocalyptic space that could be a ballroom or a casino.

Bruce Jenner, who is in the process of splitting from matriarch Kris, is encased in a strange glass tomb that reads “cashier”. We wish you an eerie Christmas?

?Mariah Carey and family?

Carey, husband Nick Cannon and their twins, Monroe and Moroccan, are all bundled up against the snow in their family Christmas card – although the songstress is clutching a pair of sunglasses just in case there’s a thaw.

There’s an alternative card that features just Carey and Cannon as a cartoon Santa and Mrs Claus with puppies at their feet and a rather blinging Christmas tree.
