Cape Town’s newest road race – the FNB Cape Town 12 OneRun – has added Olympic medallist Vivian Cheruiyot of Kenya to its line-up for the 12km event on May 17.

The organisers of the inaugural race announced today that the 32-year-old Cheruiyot has confirmed her entry in the OneRun, which offers a total prize purse of R300?000.

Meanwhile, Cheruiyot, the former world champion of the 5?000m and 10?000m races will renew her rivalry with South Africa’s René Kalmer.

The two once squared up in the 3?000m during the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Doha, Qatar five years ago.

On that day the Kenyan champion took silver behind Ethiopia’s Meseret Defar while Kalmer came a distant ninth.

Kalmer is among an array of accomplished local athletes such as Stephen Mokoka, Mapaseka Makhanya and Elroy Gelant that have entered the race.

The first man and woman home will get R40?000.
