A man died and six other people were injured when a taxi collided with a car at a junction in Bryanston, north of Johannesburg, today, Netcare 911 said.

Spokesman Jeffrey Wicks said both vehicles had entered the junction when the car turned into the taxi’s lane.

“The taxi struck the car and then overturned and skidded to a halt near the pavement,” said Wicks.

The taxi driver was thrown out of his vehicle when it rolled. It landed on him and he died at the scene.

Five passengers travelling in the taxi were found lying in the road and were taken to hospital.

The driver of the car was in a critical condition and had to be airlifted to hospital.
