The body of Port Elizabeth model Reeva Steenkamp (29) has arrived in the back of a black hearse at the city’s Victoria Park Cemetery where a memorial service for her being is being held.

She will be cremated here today.

Family, friends and colleagues of the law graduate, who was shot dead, allegedly by Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius, on Valentine’s Day last week, have arrived to pay their last respects to her.

A huge media contingent of local and foreign journalists was locked outside the gates of the cemetery this morning.

Celebrities and contestants of the reality TV show, Tropika Island of Treasure, which aired on SABC 1 on Saturday evening and featured a laughing and cheerful Steenkamp, were seen making their way to the cemetery this morning. Steenkamp had been one of the show’s 14 celebrity participants.

The reality show’s host, DJ Fresh, refused to comment on Steenkamp’s death at the gates of the cemetery.

A close family friend, Gavin Verster (53) described the 29-year-old Steenkamp as a wonderful person.

“She was a wonderful person, an angel. I know where she is now, she is in heaven,” he said.

Verster lambasted the 26-year-old Pistorius, saying he must be dealt with harshly.

“I am disgusted with what Oscar has (allegedly) done … he must not be released, he must stay in jail where he belongs,” said the emotional man.

There were also unconfirmed reports that police had to be called in to chase away a big contingent of journalists who had camped outside the Steenkamp’s family home in the suburb of Seaview early this morning.
