Otter causes West Rand accident

2011-05-30 10:39

Four people were injured in an accident in Roodepoort on the West Rand when a taxi swerved to avoid an otter.

ER24 spokesperson Vanessa Jackson said paramedics were called after two taxis and an Opel Corsa collided on Hendrik Potgieter Road today.

The accident happened at fairly low speed and people sustained only minor injuries, she said.

Jackson said the animal was thought to have made its way up to the road from nearby wetlands.

“Sadly, even though the driver of the taxi had tried to avoid driving into the otter, the animal was killed in the accident,” she said.
