The darling of Orlando Pirates supporters, Oupa Manyisa, has assured the club’s followers that he will stay put at the Buccaneers – unless an overseas contract comes his way.

Manyisa, who last night walked away with three awards at the club’s players’ awards ceremony, said he wanted to repay the club’s chair, Irvin Khoza, for believing in him when nobody knew him.

Manyisa, who pocketed R200 000 on the night, has been linked with a move away to big-spending Mamelodi Sundowns, but the pint-size midfielder said that was far from the truth.

He was also rumoured to be on the wanted books of Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

“I don’t know anything about the move. Nothing is happening and I’m not going anywhere. I’m staying here at the club and that’s my promise to the Pirates fans. I still have a year left on my contract and will honour it unless an overseas move comes,” said the newly crowned Players’ Player and Player of the Season.

Manyisa also shared the chairman’s award with goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa, for having played 51 of the 53 games the team had played last season.

He said his ambition was to get an overseas contract.

“I have been to France and England before and it was a learning curve for me. I can’t say I wasn’t ready then but it was a good experience for me.”

A few years ago the 25-year-old was invited by French side Strasbourg for a training camp and he also had training sessions at Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers.

But for now he said he wanted to help Pirates to reclaim the league title and do well in the CAF Confederations Cup next year.

All the awards:

» Golden Glove winner – Senzo Meyiwa (R30 000)

» Adidas Golden Boot – Lennox Bacela (R30 000)

» DStv Goal of the Season – Thabo Matlaba (R30 000)

» Vodacom Online Player Of The Season – Thabo Matlaba (R50 000)

» Players Player of the Season – Oupa Manyisa (R50 000)

» Chairman’s Award – Senzo Meyiwa and Oupa Manyisa (R50 000 each)
