It’s all about who you follow these days. Jeanette Chabalala and Siyabonga Sithole trawl the Twittersphere for their 10 best microbloggers.

1 Caspar Lee: @caspar_lee

The young lad is also present on other social networks such as Facebook, Instagram and Tumblr.

2 PIGSpotter: @PigSpotter

PIGSpotter has had numerous run-ins with the authorities since he started warning motorists of the speed traps and road blocks on South Africa’s roads.

PIGSpotter became the saviour of thousands of motorists who all wanted to escape the police on the roads, but the authorities would have none of it, threatening the Spotter with prosecution.

PIGSpotter’s Twitter profile reads: “Let’s help each other expose where cops are trapping & set up roadblocks daily.”

He is followed by fans and foes for his witty and daring approach to current affairs.

Diakanyo has a big mouth, strong opinions, and more than 137 091 tweets and 35 500 followers.

This makes him a strong contender for the most controversial person on Twitter.

There are those who love him and others who hate him with a passion.

His litany of tweets knows no boundaries.

A recent tweet – “Mandela didn’t want Mbeki writing a foreword for his autobiography but had asked our dom Jacob and his one-eyed sidekick to pen something” – goes to show that this banker pulls no punches on Twitter.

4 Michael Jordaan: @michaeljordaan

Outgoing FNB CEO Michael Jordaan is the first CEO of a South African bank to join Twitter.

He trended when he announced that he will be stepping down as FNB chief executive at the end of the year.

He writes for Blaque magazine and is a presenter on online radio Rhythm 100.

6 TaxiDriver Sipho: @TaxiDriverSipho

His identity is shrouded in mystery, but Sipho denies he is Mzekezeke.

He says he is better than the masked kwaito star.

Like Mzekezeke, he wears a mask and looks like a skhothane in his loud coloured outfits.

His grammar and spelling are always wrong, a source of great amusement to the carefree but a pain to grammar nazis.

He is funny and commands a following of more than 40 000, who eat out of the palm of his hands, or is it fingers? He describes himself as “KingOfTwitter”.

7 Ivo Vegter: @IvoVegter

She is that girl who says things that people are too afraid to say.

She tells it like it is. She recently won a car at Citroën SA, after which she commented: “But you can’t be mad at me for having a car while you’re still walking or taking taxis.”

With more than 2 000 followers and 112 000 tweets, she is set for greatness with her don’t-care attitude.
