Our Voices a forum to launch SABC’s recognition of woman’s worth at last

Failing to thank the editor of this publication for establishing the Voices section would be failing to give praise where and when it is due.

It is this section that gave me a voice to scream that the time has come for the SABC to entrust its CEO post to a woman! By publishing my piece you somehow supported my call.

Therefore, you are also in the line of those who delivered a female boss to the SABC. Thank you for being there to advance the gender agenda.

Thank you, SABC board for recognising one among us, Women in Broadcasting!

The announcement of Lulama Mokhobo as the incoming group CEO of the SABC is most welcome! It is a breath of fresh air. Seventy-five years of a male-dominated leadership has been broken.

Your names will go down in the history of this country as the board that crossed this “Rubicon”.

Mokhobo will come armed with a solid mind, strong on strategy as well as leadership. Her track record as a seasoned broadcaster precedes her and some of her brain children; Motswako and Three Talk, among others, speak volumes about her ability.

The Public Broadcasting Services which she led as the last group executive prospered and delivered audiences.

I do not suppose it will be easy at all. Let’s all remember that she is inheriting an ailing entity. She will need all the support she can get from those who love this country.

May she be given the space and scope to do her job without interference and side-shows!

On behalf of women, we pray that she will also be a cadre to advance the cause and agenda of women, mothers and girls.

We hope she will not be counted as one of those women who walk into office, lock all the windows and doors and make sure they throw away the keys.
