2009-12-26 09:09

Over 200 babies were born across South Africa and more were still expected before midnight, the various provincial health departments said yesterday.

By Christmas evening, Mpumalanga had recorded the highest number of

babies at 75 and placed Limpopo, which was on the lead throughout the afternoon,

in second place with 63 newborns.

The Free State saw 41 babies born followed by 28 in KwaZulu Natal

and Gauteng’s 23. The Eastern Cape recorded the least babies at 21.

Meanwhile, the SABC earlier in the day reported that 28 babies were

born in the Western Cape, while the number of newborns in the Northern Cape and

North West could not be confirmed.
