PS: Busisiwe Mahlaba

2009-10-09 13:49

Businesswoman and presenter Busisiwe Mahlaba has made strides in the media industry. A force to be reckoned with, a mother and a TV personality with SABC2’s Motswako, there is just no stopping this woman’s upward path. Here she talks about her 4x4 (lucky her) and Winnie the Pooh!

Life is ... hectic, I’m running around between projects while trying to spend quality time with my little girl.

My first job was a beauty consultant for Estee Lauder during school and university vacations. I loved it as it introduced me to glamour.

The most romantic thing I’ve ever done is ... go diving in the Maldives with someone I loved dearly.

Right now I am listening to ... Regina Belle’s Dream in Colour.

My real life hero is ... any single mom who is providing the best that they can for their child/children – especially in this current economic climate.

My fictional hero is ...Winnie the Pooh! Life does not faze him at all, no matter what, he just focuses on what makes him happy. I love that!

My favourite place in South Africa is ... Hermanus, or anywhere where we can see whales.

I love being around my family because ... they are loud and there is bound to be lots of singing.

My dream car is ... any car that I am driving at the time. I’ve always loved cars and have always been fortunate as an adult to drive my dream car, whether it’s a convertible or a 4x4. Currently it’s a 4x4.

The one phrase I overuse is ... stop it! I can’t breathe!

Before the end of the day I just have to ... cuddle my daughter even though as a toddler it’s often a fight to get hugs and kisses on demand!

I was so embarrassed when ... I thought I was pregnant and fabulous and was strutting my stuff in Sandton City when my shoes finally gave up and the heel broke in full view of everyone! I realised then how large I was and that maybe heels were not altogether such a great idea!

Living the African dream for me would be ... to be able to travel from one country to another without borders.

If I could change one thing about me it would be ... my lack of rhythm. I really can’t dance, it’s just terrible.

When I think of 2010, I think of ... the entire world in my city – what an awesome thought.

The best day of the week is ... every day that I am able to come home and see my daughter’s cherubic face.

I knew my career and I were meant to be when ...I felt comfortable in what I was doing and knew that after giving input, people actually listened.

My favourite room in the house is .... my bedroom because I love everything in it – crisp white linen and my favourite wall hangings done by my very talented friend, Zaza. The colours in my room make me feel warm and relaxed and it’s where I do all of my reading.

My favourite childhood memory is ... coming home from church on Christmas Day and looking forward to Christmas lunch where we could eat all the things that we didn’t normally get during the year. But also, any memory that includes my brother – he and I were like two peas in a pod!

My all time favourite old school track is ... Window of Hope by Oleta Adams. She is possibly one of the best artists and that song reminds me of good friends and times when I travelled throughout the world with SAA.

My next project is ... my projects are always evolving and there are a few in the pipeline right now, so watch this space! – Compiled by Farrah Francis
