PS: Nutty NYS

The man behind Nka Mo Dira, the slamming summer hit that is fast becoming a party phenomenon, left his job at YFM as a DJ and music manager to go full steam as a producer and record label owner. Look at him now. His real name is Nkosinathi Mbelu, 31, from the Vaal and he loves Johnny Bravo.

Life is ... Charles R Swindoll says it best: “The longer I live, the more I realise the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, education, money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill.

The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past ... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude.

I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our attitudes.”

My first job was ... as a recording engineer.

Right now I am listening to ... a song by Madeleine Peyroux called Don’t Wait Too Long.

The most romantic thing I’ve ever done is ... I totally suck in that department so I don’t think I’ve ever done anything to that effect, ever.

My fictional hero is ... Johnny Bravo.

My real life hero is ... I really can’t narrow it down to just one person. So many people have played very important roles in my life and to me they all are my heroes.

My favourite place in South Africa is ... Knysna.

I love being around my family because ... They are a constant reminder of who I really am, where I come from, where I am now and where it is I’m going.

My dream car is ... a Bentley Continental GT Diamond.

The one phrase I overuse is ... Nka Mo Dira.

Before the end of the day I just have to ... pray.

I was SO embarrassed when ... one evening, after a comedy show at Emperor’s Palace, I decided to take a short cut that was supposed to take me to the Vaal for a gig. I ended up in Secunda. I felt very stupid because I chose to ignore all the signs on the road indicating that the road I was on was not gonna lead me to my desired destination, but in my true stubborn nature I drove on. Good thing there was no one else in the car. Needless to say I was late for my gig and I got to the club just as everyone was leaving.

If I could change one thing about me it would be ... there is a reason why God made me the way I am, I wouldn’t wanna mess with his plans.

When I think of 2010, I think of ... the year after 2009.

My favourite/unforgettable childhood toy is ... my Optimus Prime transformer.

I knew my career and me were meant to be when ... I received my first royalty cheque. Getting paid for doing what you really love is a blessing one should always be grateful for.

My favourite room in the house is ... the kitchen. I love cooking.

Being in my line of work is all about being ... patient and focused.

My favourite childhood memory is ... going to visit my Granny in Izingolweni after not seeing her for like a year. We stayed there for a week and every day we had a feast. Coming from Gauteng, I was fascinated by how simple the lifestyle there was.
Back then the place had no electricity, no running water, no proper roads, people there just stuck to the basics.
My all-time favourite old school track is ... Stevie Wonder’s If It’s Magic.

My next project is ... releasing three artists I’ve just signed to my label.
