PS: Tebogo Lerole

TEBOGO is a member of Kwela Tebza, the fashionable and acclaimed trio of Soweto pennywhistlers.

He became a star when, barely in his teens, he performed at the finals of the talent show Shell Road To Fame. Years later, he and his brothers are exponents of modern kwela music, breaking hearts along the way. The dimpled hunk talks about their new album Made in South Africa and Hancock the black superman.

Life...has a lot to give. Spread a little happiness.

My first job was … I was a promoter/team leader at Benson & Hedges.

Right now I am listening to ... Kwela Tebza, Thembi Seete, The Parlotones, Drake and Kanye West.

Right now I am watching...Hoteleng by David Kau, White Wedding, Jerusalema, Valkyrie and Hangover.

My real life hero... my parents.

My fictional hero is ... Hancock. Only because he is the first black superhero who can fly.

My favourite childhood memory is … how naughty Tshepo and I were every time we visited our grandmother’s farm. We were two delinquents, even the animals felt our wrath.

My favourite place in SA is … Soweto because I was born there.

My dream car is... a James Bond car that you can operate from the palm of your hand, that you can turn into a speed boat, submarine or a flying jet.

My favourite toy is … a Chevy 1964 Impala, six mabone, my dad had one.

Living the African dream for me would be ... gaining respect and recognition in the world by being true to my African roots.
If I could change one thing about me it would be ...my time-management skills.

My all-time favourite track is ... Dear Mama by Tupac.

The three musicians I would bring back from the dead are... Lebo Mathosa, Tupac and Michael Jackson.

I wish I’d never ... criticise as much as I do.

I’d rather be in a studio or on a stage? ... on stage to engage with the many different people, both friend or foe. To explore and exchange cultures as well as attitudes.

The one phrase I overuse is ...done deal.

I knew my career and I were meant to be when ... I got a recording deal.

My favourite room in the house is … the bathroom because it’s the quietest place in the house where I can be deep in thought.

The best day of the week is ...Monday.

South African soccer needs ... a South African coach that can speak or understand African languages. It also needs strikers, strikers, strikers and more strikers.

When I think 2010, I think ... is Africa ready? The people not the infrastructure. Are the people of Africa involved as part of this phenomenon?

My next project is … the new record, Made In South Africa.
