PS: Thato Mahlatsi

2009-10-23 11:40

Orlando East-born rapper Thato Mahlatsi of hip-hop group Zulu Mobb is Jam Alley’s new co-presenter. The Metro FM Awards and Channel O Music Video Awards nominee, who looks up to rap mogul Jay-Z, talks about his envy of Superman and what the young jammers can expect from him in the show.

Life is … a first-class ticket to heaven.

My first job was … a presenting job on SABC1’s magazine show Get Real.

Right now I’m listening to … The Blueprint 3 by Jay Z. Jigga is the one, there is no other.

Right now I’m watching … District 9, some hardcore stuff right there.

My real life hero is … Jay Z. He has always had a vision and a dream and he has kept to it and kept it real. He is the richest rapper alive. He is making moves and changing lives.

My fictional hero is … Clark Kent a.k.a Superman. I mean the guy can literally fly.

My favourite childhood memory is … I was nine years old when I got my first pair of roller skates after seeing them in a movie. I was like, “I need to get a pair of those”. I didn’t want to take them off afterwards.

My favourite place in SA is … Cape Town. I just love the scenery. When you wake up and open the window, there’s this tranquil breeze. I really enjoy it.

My dream car is … a Lambo. It is a fresh ride.

My favourite toy is … Play- Station 3. I could start playing it from 8am until late at night.

Living the African dream for me would be … living and being treated like a king and having eight wives who will tend to me every day.

If I could change one thing about me it would be … patience. I’m not really patient. If I really took my time with certain things, I could have acquired a lot in life.

My all time favourite track is … Dead Presidents by Jay Z featuring Nas, because it’s a conscious track that still managed to go commercial.

The one phrase I overuse is … “you know what I mean” pronounced “uknowatimean”.

I knew my career and I were meant to be when … I started rapping in the toilet. I was so shy that I’d lock myself in the toilet and rap to myself.

My favourite room in the house is … my bedroom. It is where I can be at one with myself.

The best day of the week is … Friday, ziyawa!

When I found out I got the Jam Alley gig I … was ecstatic. It was my third audition.

I will give Jam Alley viewers … freshness. The brand needed more flavour and I boast a lot of energy. I hope to bring back all the enthusiastic viewers Jam Alley had before as well as draw new viewers to the show. Jam Alley is a great platform for expression and discovery. It will surely open more doors for me!

When I think 2010, I think … opportunities to make lots of money, but only for that month because that’s how long it will last. Thereafter it’s about the future beyond it.

What is your next project … working on my solo album. I have recorded about 15 tracks thus far and I will be dropping it soon, so watch out! Hotness for sure.
