PSL drops a bombshell

2011-10-18 11:22

PSL chairman Irvin Khoza today dropped a bombshell when he announced that CEO Zola Majavu has quit his position.

Chief operations officer Cambridge Mokonyane will take over on an interim basis.

Khoza said Majavu, who assumed the position on August 1, and the league could not agree on some fundamental issues and decided to part ways amicably.

According to Khoza, Majavu thought he had the right to appoint senior managers, including chief operations officer, chief financial officer and head of legal, but the league’s Constitution did not provide for that as the powers reside in the executive committee.

“For him, it’s a fundamental issue and for us it is a governance issue,” said Khoza.

“The executive committee reaffirmed that it must adhere to both its policies and the schedule of delegated authority which grant its powers to appoint senior management. Majavu held the view that he could not accept this and on that basis the two parties agreed to part ways amicably due to these fundamental differences,” read the PSL statement.
