Palin leaves door open to White House run

2012-03-07 07:06

Anchorage, Alaska – Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin may run for the White House nomination in 2016.

Speaking as she voted in the caucuses in her far northwestern home state, the former vice-presidential nominee said: “Anything is possible for an American.

“And I don’t discount any idea or plan that at this point isn’t in my control – anything’s possible,” she told CNN, when asked about a run in four years.

“I would seriously consider whatever I can do to help our country, to put things back on the right track,” she said in her hometown of Wasilla in Alaska.

She was asked specifically what she would do if the Republican party faced an open convention in August – meaning none of the current candidates has sewn up the nomination by then.

If someone wanted to put her name in the hat, she said: “As I say, anything is possible. I don’t close any doors that perhaps would be open out there, so, no, I wouldn’t close that door.

“My plan is to be at that convention,” she added.

The Republican party’s 2008 presidential nominee, Senator John McCain, picked Palin as his vice-presidential nominee, before being beaten by Democrat Barack Obama.

Palin was speaking as former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney sought to deal a knockout blow to his rivals in the race to be the Republican 2012 presidential nominee, as 10 states voted on so-called “Super Tuesday”.
