For six years, actress Pamela Nomvete – or rather, her character, Ntsiki Lukhele – was a household name in South Africa.

But Nomvete insists that, despite rumours to the contrary, she would never consider returning to Generations, the show she left in 2000.

Hers is one of the names being circulated as a possible addition to the soapie’s cast when it relaunches tomorrow.

Generations has undergone a complete makeover after 16 of its main actors were sacked earlier this year for going on strike because they were unhappy with their salaries.

Nomvete strongly denied that she was approached by the show’s producers to act in the revamped Generations.

“I have been in the country since April and I was never in talks with anyone from the show. Anyway, I wouldn’t go back to Generations – I didn’t enjoy it,” Nomvete told City Press.

“Mzansi’s actors and artists are still exploited to this day. There is a lot of suffering in our showbiz industry.”

She said she believed it was a “good thing” the 16 were fired and their complaints made public.

“This has proven that actors are miserable and I hope this is going to be a turning point in our TV industry.”

Meanwhile, Generations fans will welcome back some familiar faces and get to know new actors when the show kicks off again tomorrow night.

Connie Ferguson and Rapulana Seiphemo return as Karabo Moroka and Tau Mogale, while Manaka Ranaka and Letoya Makhene are two of the new cast members.

City Press tried to get comment about the relaunch from Generations producer Friedrich Stark on Friday – but he hung up the phone when we called.
