Pamodzi liquidators axed

2011-05-23 12:34

Pamodzi liquidators Enver Motala and Gavin Gainsford have been fired, trade union Solidarity announced today.

Aurora Empowerment Systems, owned by former president Nelson Mandela’s grandson Zondwa Mandela and President Jacob Zuma’s nephew Khulubuse Zuma, currently manages Pamodzi’s mining assets in Springs and Orkney.

Solidarity is also demanding that Aurora be fired as the managers of the mining asset.

According to Solidarity, a R3.1-million liquidation application against Aurora was served last Friday.

Solidarity wants to force the mining company to pay outstanding salaries or shut down.

“Aurora has until May 31 to oppose the application. If Aurora doesn’t oppose the application, it will be heard in the North Gauteng High Court on June 7,” the union said in a statement.

Last month, the liquidators were paid more than R40 million, which was slammed by the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) and Solidarity.

NUM spokesperson Lesiba Seshoka said the union also received correspondence informing them of the decision to remove the liquidators from the master of the court (Joburg High Court) this morning.

Meanwhile, Solidarity deputy general secretary Gideon du Plessis will address Parliament’s portfolio committee on mining resources on Friday on the situation at Aurora’s Grootvlei, Springs and Orkney, North West mines.

Justice department spokesperson Tlali Tlali did not respond to City Press’ enquiries.
