Park properly. It’s a fit thing.

2010-04-03 10:51

IT’S month-end and you need to pay bills or pick up some supper, and when you finally a spot parking space you discover the person in the next bay has not left you enough space because they clearly have no idea how to park.

It irks the living daylights out of me.

We see it day in and day out, with the culprits either driving big-ass fuelguzzlers or tiny cars that could probably fit in half a parking bay. And if you do manage to park, you’re either going to scratch your car or theirs.

What I also fail to comprehend is when tiny cars use two bays. How do they do it? I mean cars like a Chery QQ3, Hyundai Atos, Smart cars or even Citi Golfs. Seriously, are the drivers just inconsiderate?

I can’t accept that parking can be so difficult, especially when it is a vital part of passing your driver’s licence. Are people just lazy or did they buy their licences?

I can’t think of any other reasons, unless their vision is impaired or the motorists are beyond old-age.

Sometimes I test drive huge cars and they are a mission to park. I would rather look like an idiot by reversing in and out until I have parked in the allocated space than inconvenience other motorists and risk damaging cars.

Perhaps it’s just a petty pet-peeve, but I believe everyone should be thoughtful of the next person. Treat others the way you would want to be treated.

If you can’t park in a bay that’s challenging, then circle the parking lot until you find a more convenient spot.
