Petrol price drops

The price of petrol will drop by 15 to 18 cents per litre on

Wednesday, the energy department said today.

The price of 93 unleaded premium (ULP) and lead replacement petrol

(LRP) will decrease by 15 cents per litre while 95 ULP & LRP will drop by 18

cents per litre in retail price.

The wholesale price of diesel with a 0.05% sulphur content would

drop by 15 cents per litre while diesel with a 0.005% sulphur content would

decrease in price by 16 cents a litre.

The wholesale price of illuminating paraffin would decline by 12

cents a litre, while the single maximum national retail price for illuminating

paraffin would drop by 16 cents a litre.

A litre of petrol 95 ULP in Gauteng would now cost R8.27.

The department said the average international product prices of

petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin decreased for the period May 28 to July


For the same period, the average rand/US dollar exchange rate was

7.6708 compared to 7.6575 during the previous period.
