After his much-publicised spat with the club, Orlando Pirates captain Lucky Lekgwathi says he has put the episode behind him.

Lekgwathi has been sidelined after he openly criticised the decision to bench him for the MTN8 final against Platinum Stars in September. He then blamed this on a third force operating in the team.

But Lekgwathi is back in the team for the CAF Champions League final against Al Ahly today after being out of action for almost six weeks.

Speaking for the first time since the debacle, Lekgwathi said he just wanted to concentrate on playing football. He, however, confessed that he did apologise to his team-mates and the club management for his outburst.

“I realised my mistake and how to address my frustrations in future and the whole matter is behind me. I have been working hard to keep in shape and I knew my time would come. I am happy that I will get a chance to represent my club again and I will use all my experience to help the team lift the trophy,” said the club captain.

He is expected to be slotted into the right-back position because of the suspension of Happy Jele. But this does not faze the 37-year-old veteran defender who has played in the same position before.

“For me it doesn’t matter where I play. I mean I played in the same position against AC Leopards and did well. All I want to do is to give all for the team and make sure we win the trophy.

“This is the only trophy missing from my medal cabinet and it would be nice to own it as well so that when I decide to retire I know I’ve won all the medals.”
