Pirates out to close the gap

2011-09-27 14:38

Title holders Orlando Pirates will look to close the gap on the Absa Premiership front runners when they go in search of their first win in three games tomorrow.

Pirates, lying mid-table after six rounds of matches, face Free State Stars in Phuthaditjhaba.

New Buccaneers coach Julio Leal is eager to get back to winning ways ahead of a two-week break which will cater for Bafana Bafana’s crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sierra Leone.

“I remember last season very well. Pirates won a lot of away games,” Leal told the Kickoff website today.

“I think it is time we recover this capacity of winning away.

“Free State Stars are a fighting team that are always difficult to beat at home, but we are going there with our quality and positive minds to score more goals than them and win the game.”

Leal was confident his side, who won three titles last season under former coach Ruud Krol, would get the better of their hosts.

“I believe in my group. I believe in the work we are doing and I believe we will do a good job and get results there.”

Elsewhere tomorrow, former three-time champions SuperSport United, who led the standings ahead of the midweek fixtures, square up against Moroka Swallows in Dobsonville.

Kaizer Chiefs host Golden Arrows in Polokwane, Santos face Black Leopards in Cape Town, and Maritzburg United are at home to Platinum Stars in Pietermaritzburg.

Log bottom Jomo Cosmos will hope to pick up their first win of the season against Wits in Daveyton.
