Pistorius ‘put on prostheses, walked 7m to fire gun’

2013-02-19 10:14

Star athlete Oscar Pistorius got up, put on his prostheses and walked 7 metres to fire the gun on the day Reeva Steenkamp died, the court has heard.

Pistorius is appearing in the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court this morning in connection with his girlfriend’s killing in the early hours of Valentine’s Day.

His bail application is under way.

Prosecutor Advocate Gerrie Nel said an unarmed Steenkamp was shot multiple times while in the bathroom.

He claimed Pistorius put on his prostheses before firing the gun.

But Pistorius’ lawyer, Advocate Barry Roux, said this was not Pistorius’ version of events. He asked if the State had witnesses to confirm the claim.

Roux also denied that it was premeditated murder, saying he would show cases where loved ones had shot each other through bathroom doors by mistake.

He said Pistorius had broken down the bathroom door to help Steenkamp.
