Playboy prepares to show some SA skin from April

2010-10-10 14:16

Playboy magazine, which has a worldwide readership of 15 million, has announced plans to launch a South African edition in April next year.

The new South African edition will join 27 existing licensed international editions of Playboy magazine.

The American version is available in South Africa, but as of April 1, it will be replaced by Playboy South Africa.

“No one knows South Africa like South Africans do. Readers engage with a publication that is familiar and offers a local spirit,” said Madelain Roscher of PR?Worx, the company handling the publicity for the publishers.

She said the magazine would remain editorially driven with a strong emphasis on informative cutting edge articles that would address global issues and trends.

Readers would also have the pleasure of ogling over local pin-up girls (called Playmates).

The news follows the signing of a licence agreement between Playboy Enterprises, the owners and publishers of the magazine, and South African publisher Sciofon (Pty) Limited.

The publishers will have to comply with the laws of the Film and Publication Board.

The regulatory body stipulates that any magazine that contains nudity or pornographic content has to be wrapped in an opaque cover to protect children.
