There’s a riveting line-up at the 18th Poetry Africa festival in Durban this year.

The event is looking fiercely political, strongly feminist and gratefully Pan-African. If you thought the form was outmoded and dull, get down to the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre and prepare to eat your words.

There’s a hugely diverse range of styles on offer by 24 poets from 13 countries. #Trending’s picks?

.?I guess one shouldn’t miss US headliner Buddy Wakefield,?world-famous slam poet.

.?It’s going to be fascinating to see Thuli Zuma on home turf in a fiercely political?session.?She’s Number 1’s daughter and dad will no doubt be the target of barbed words.

.?Nigerian activist AJ Dagga Tolar will be sure to burn down the house.

.?Mozambique’s Féling Capela makes beautiful accompanying sounds on multiple instruments.

.?Kenya’s Raya Wambui is deliciously political. – Charl Blignaut

Poetry Africa runs in Durban from October 13 to 17 at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre. The festival finale will be at the at Rivertown Beerhall on October 18
