Police following leads in Steynsrus rape, murder

2011-03-21 12:44

The police are “following leads” in the case of a mother and her one-year-old toddler raped and killed in a township outside Steynsrus in the Free State at the weekend.

“The police have made no arrests yet, but are following leads,” Captain Harry Nagel said today.

“The investigating officers are looking around and questioning people.”

The woman (30) and her two children, aged one and two, were found in their shack on Saturday morning. The woman had been stabbed in her back and raped. Both toddlers had also been raped.

The one-year-old had stab wounds around the neck and shoulder. The two-year-old had serious head injuries.

The mother and one-year-old child both died.

The two-year-old was in intensive care at a nearby hospital.

Nagel said it seemed as though the attacker had entered the house through a window.
