Police officer shot in face

A police officer has been seriously wounded when he was shot in the face while on duty at Poortjie Police Station, south of Johannesburg, Gauteng police today.

Warrant Officer Molefe Mokoena said: “A man walked into the police station and shot a police officer while he was helping a community member at the counter on Sunday night.”

The man stole the police officer’s firearm and ran out.

The police officer was rushed to hospital where he was being treated.

It was unclear how many suspects there were.

Police had opened a case of attempted murder and robbery.
