Police prepare to party

2011-01-28 08:47

Soweto’s Orlando Stadium was abuzz with activity as scores of police officers made their way there to celebrate national police day today.

Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa and other senior officials were expected to address the crowds that had slowed early morning traffic near Orlando East stadium.

Mthethwa’s spokesperson Zweli Mnisi said the event, which started at 9am, would see a torch being lit as a symbol of unity among various law enforcement agencies.

“There’s going to be entertainment and a lot of activities such as aerobics to send a message that we want healthy and fit officers,” he said.

“We also will be thanking the officers for all their hard work.”?
