Police swoop on alleged card-cloning syndicate

2011-05-21 12:12

Nine people, allegedly part of a card-cloning syndicate, were arrested in Durban’s Morningside suburb, KwaZulu-Natal police said today.

At least 50 cloned cards and manufacturing equipment were found in their possesion, said Colonel Jay Naicker.

Police swooped on one group member in KwaMashu early yesterday after receiving information.

Naicker said the man led police to another house where his alleged accomplices were staying.

The nine, aged between 22 and 36, face charges of fraud, conspiracy to commit fraud, and contraventions under the Electronic Communication Transaction Act.

They are expected to appear in the Durban Commercial Crimes Court on Monday.
