Power failure delays ET case

2011-10-12 09:17

The trial of two farmworkers accused of killing Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging (AWB) leader Eugene Terre’Blanche was delayed until 10.20am today because of a power outage at the Ventersdorp Circuit High Court.

Earlier, court officials said cables had been stolen from an Eskom plant 20km outside the town. A generator was now being used to continue with proceedings.

A fifth witness was expected to take the stand this morning. Four witnesses already testified that the pair had confessed to the crime.

Chris Mahlangu (28) and a minor have pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, housebreaking and attempted robbery with aggravating circumstances.

Mahlangu claimed he acted in self defence, while the minor denied involvement in the murder.
