Pregnant woman set alight by boyfriend dies

2013-07-04 16:58

A Cape Town woman who was set alight died in hospital this morning, Western Cape police said.

Nazeema Terreblanche was admitted to hospital after her boyfriend allegedly attacked her on June 14.

Captain Frederick van Wyk said today Roger Lucas appeared in the Goodwood Magistrates’ Court on Monday on an attempted murder charge and was denied bail.

The case would now be changed to murder. Lucas was expected back in court on July 15.

The Daily Voice reported that Lucas and Terreblanche had been arguing. He allegedly poured petrol over her – while she carried a friend’s baby – and struck a match. The baby sustained minor burns to his feet.

It was believed that Terreblanche was pregnant at the time of the attack.
