Presidency gets more money again

2011-10-25 13:06

The Presidency has been allocated an additional R115.9 million in the adjusted estimates of national expenditure unveiled by Treasury today.

Some R20 million will pay for higher than provided for salary increases, including for the National Planning Commission; and R62 million will be moved from the government communications service to the Presidency for the Brand SA project.

The adjusted allocation also includes R37.5 million in unforeseeable and unavoidable expenditure, including an additional R20 million for legal services.

The office of President Jacob Zuma itself has been allocated R5 million extra “to enable the president to deliver on his national and international mandate”.

There is a further R1.5 million going to the Presidency for protocol arrangements at state funerals.
Funding for the Presidency has increased consistently since Zuma took office, drawing frequent criticism from the opposition.

The National Youth Development Agency, criticised for the chaotic organisation of the international youth festival, has not been allocated any additional funding over the three-year medium-term expenditure framework.
