Pressure is on for Chiefs

2011-03-01 15:36

Pressure is on Kaizer Chiefs to collect maximum points when they tackle Vasco da Gama at Athlone Stadium this evening.

Chiefs dropped four points in their last two games, as a result of draws against Santos and Orlando Pirates and a defeat at the hands of Da Gama will see them losing pace with the log leaders.

But a win for Amakhosi will see them go to the top of the Absa Premiership for the first time this season, as Pirates and Ajax are only playing tomorrow.

Chiefs, who lost 3-1 to Da Gama in the first round, will be minus their influential skipper Jimmy Tau because of suspension and coach Vladimir Vermezovic will have to reshuffle his back four.

On their previous two outings in Cape Town, Chiefs only brought back one point against Santos, a fortnight ago. They lost 1-0 to Ajax Cape Town earlier in the season.

After conceding a late equaliser against Pirates over the weekend Vermezovic might also change his starting line-up against a Vasco side which is also looking for a victory to get out of the relegation zone.

The Cape side threw away two valuable points against AmaZulu on Saturday when the two teams played to a 3-all draw.

Other teams’ supporters, especially from Pirates and Ajax, will be rooting for Vasco to cause another upset knowing a defeat for Chiefs would give them breathing space at the top.
