Prosecutor attacked with axe

2011-02-11 07:12

A senior state prosecutor at the Welkom Magistrates Court was attacked with an axe in his home in Welkom.

Lieutenant Colonel Thandi Mbambo said Ben Molutsi (57) was recovering in hospital last night after he was attacked at his home in the early hours of the morning.

“Molutsi was allegedly hacked with an axe while sleeping in his bed at about 4.40am yesterday.”

Mbambo said the police were called by his sister-in-law after Molutsi managed to drag himself out of bed after the attack and went to his brother’s place behind the main house to ask for help.

Police discovered that everything was still in order at the house and there was no sign of forced entry.

Molutsi suffered an open wound to the left side of the head and was referred to a hospital in Welkom where he underwent surgery.

The motive for the attack has not been established and a case of attempted murder was opened.
