Protesters picket outside Mokopane court

2010-09-06 11:31

A group of protesters were picketing today outside the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court, where more than 300 public servants were expected to appear, Limpopo police said.

“Currently, there are people picketing,” said Colonel Motlafela Mojapelo.

He said 304 public servants were arrested in Mokopane last week and were due to appear in court today.

“What happened is, five people were arrested for intimidation after they went to the hospital in Mokopane and intimidated other workers.

“Then members of the community went to the police station and demanded their release, so we arrested them too.”

Mojapelo said there was a strong police presence outside the court.

So far, the situation was under control.
