Queen for a special day

Generations actress Sophie Ndaba said “I do” once again during a surprise wedding at Sandton’s Summer Place on Tuesday evening.

Initially, Ndaba duped all her guests by inviting them to a “thanksgiving ceremony”.

After about two hours of “thanksgiving speeches” – by former Miss SA runner-up Matapa Maila; talkshow host Penny Lebyane; and Ndaba’s son, Lwandle – and a performance by the Afro Tenors, there was a pause during the ceremony.

Invited guest and socialite Linda Moeketsi told City Press “no one understood what was happening and thought there was a glitch with the sound system”.

“At around 5pm, the music stopped and everyone started wondering what was going on.

“Then we saw a priest and a man, wearing a brown suit, walking down the isle towards the altar,” said Moeketsi.

Then Bishop Keith Harrington finally gave the game away.

He was the groom and the man in the brown suit was his best man.

Harrington is known for his evangelical work, which has seen him travel across Africa, England, Turkey, Israel, South Korea and France. His ministry has 60 churches worldwide.

On his website, Harrington says he is able to heal “HIV/Aids and, proven by medical science, helped the blind see, the deaf hear, the cripple walk”.

While gospel group Joyous Celebration sang Jennifer Hudson’s hit, Giving My All, Ndaba strolled out clad in a white gown, accompanied by designer Gert-Johan Coetzee.

“It was such an amazing experience to think we came there for a thanksgiving party but ended up at a wedding,” said Moeketsi.

The cost of Ndaba’s figure-hugging dress was estimated at R30 000.

Other guests included fellow Generations actors Busi Lurayi, Zolisa Xaluva and Nambitha Mpumlwana, Scandal actress Rami Chuene and businessman David Mabilu.
