Questions about slain editor’s widow – report

2011-12-07 07:34

The Randburg Circuit Court did not understand why the widow of slain Bona magazine editor Force Khashane was not charged along with two brothers for the murder, according to a report today.

The Sowetan newspaper reported that in handing down sentences to Sibusiso Mtshali and his brother Sikhumbuzo yesterday, High Court Judge Kathy Satchwell questioned why Palesa Khashane was not charged.

Satchwell said the murder caused great hardship for the Khashane family.

“It was an assassination,” she told the court.

During trial, the court heard that Palesa had contacted Sibusiso 10 times on his cellphone a day before Khashane was killed, the newspaper reported. She called him another 16 times the day after the murder.

The Toyota Yaris used to transport the killers belonged to Palesa.

Sibusiso was handed a life sentence. His brother got 19 years.

Khashane was shot dead in his yard in Orlando East, Soweto, Joburg on August 12, 2009.
